Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our services, care approach, and how to get started.

What makes KC Psychiatry & Primary Care different from other clinics?

Our clinic is led by Dr. Asif Uddin, who is triple board-certified in psychiatry, internal medicine, and obesity medicine. This allows patients to receive both medical and psychiatric care in one place, reducing the need for multiple providers. We focus on comprehensive, patient-centered care with longer appointment times and direct access to your provider.

What ages do you see?

We treat adults age 18 and older.

What are your fees?
Our fees vary based on the type of visit. We provide transparent pricing before your appointment, so you know exactly what to expect. See Services page for additional information.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. We offer secure telehealth appointments for eligible patients physically located in Kansas and Missouri at the time of the visit.
How do I schedule an appointment?

All scheduling is done online through our secure portal. New patients complete the intake forms electronically before their visit.

Do you take insurance?

We are a self-pay practice and do not bill insurance. We do not accept any federal (Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare) or commercial insurance.  This means:

  • No limitations on visit length or frequency are dictated by insurance.
  • Full privacy of your medical records from insurance databases.
  • Transparent, upfront pricing.
    Patients may use HSA/FSA funds
What do you treat?

We treat a range of psychiatric disorders, including but not limited to;
Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, Schizophrenia, Eating disorders, Substance Use Disorders

How long are appointments?

Unlike traditional clinics, we offer extended appointments when appropriate:

  • Initial visit: ~60 minutes
  • Follow-up visits: ~30 minutes

This allows time to listen, answer questions, and develop a personalized plan without feeling rushed.

Do you do psychotherapy?
Dr. Uddin only does medication management and does not offer psychotherapy.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
A psychiatrist has graduated from medical school (MD or DO) and does medication management of psychiatric disorders. A psychologist does just talk therapy and is unable to prescribe medications.
Can I still see my therapist?
Absolutely. In fact, it is strongly recommended. Many of our patients continue working with their therapist while we manage their medications or provide additional psychiatric support. We’re happy to coordinate care if needed.
Can I be treated for both mental and physical health concerns at the same visit?

Yes! One of our biggest advantages is that Dr. Uddin can address psychiatric needs (such as depression, ADHD, or anxiety) and medical needs (such as blood pressure, thyroid, or diabetes management) in the same appointment.

What if I need lab work or imaging?
We can order labs, imaging, and specialist referrals when needed. We work with a variety of labs and imaging centers and will help you choose one that fits your budget and location.
What is your philosophy on medication? Does every patient need drugs to get well?
Medication can be helpful but may not always be necessary. If not, Dr. Uddin will let you know. We are not “pill pushers”. You have the autonomy to make changes as you wish, should it be warranted. We take a balanced, personalized approach and often combine medications (when appropriate) with therapy, lifestyle changes, and education based on your preferences and needs
Do you prescribe controlled substances?
Yes, when medically appropriate. All prescriptions are ordered in accordance with DEA guidelines. Controlled medications require regular follow-up appointments and may require in-person visits.
How do prescription refills work?

Refill requests should be submitted through your pharmacy. We suggest not using the automated phone systems/ apps, as they are often wrong. Please call the pharmacy and request to speak directly with a human.
Please allow 2–3 business days for processing. We do not process urgent same-day refill requests for controlled medications.

Can you coordinate care with my other providers?
Yes. With your permission, we can share records and updates with your other doctors to keep your care coordinated.
What if I need help outside of office hours?
We do not provide emergency or on-call services. If you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest ER.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 24 hours’ notice for appointment cancellations to avoid a no-show fee. This ensures we can offer the time to another patient.
Where is your office located?

Our office is located in Kansas City, and we proudly serve patients across Kansas and Missouri.
